Duration: 3 hours
Rationale
The Covid 19 pandemic caused a rethink and forced the introduction of a different approach to the organisation and enactment of the teaching and learning environment. It brought about the widespread use of online classrooms and instruction. With this paradigm shift in the delivery of instruction, teachers need to be exposed to different technocentric tools which they can used to facilitate engaging lessons. In this workshop participants will learn about Nearpod and how it can be used to develop meaningful activities designed for the online environment.
Workshop Description
Nearpod is an interactive learning tool for the classroom. It helps teachers create engaging lessons with built-in assessment opportunities. It also allows for engagement to ensure that students are all on the same page. Nearpod can integrate with Google Slides, but it also allows for building slides within the platform. This tool can also be embedded in Google Classroom so that students can refer to materials if needed at a later date.
This workshop will go in-depth knowledge in creating and using Nearpod in an instructional setting. As a result, teachers will be able to integrate active learning strategies in their lesson design.
Learning Outcomes
By the end of this workshop, participants will be able to:
- Use Nearpod to develop lessons for use in the online environment.
- Demonstrate the use of other tools (Google Slides etc) within the Nearpod platform.
- Place the Nearpod tool with the Google Classroom
- Demonstrate how to both place and retrieve information from Nearpod while in the Google classroom.
Target Participants
Teachers and ITCs at the primary and secondary levels.
