Workshop Description:
This workshop will introduce participants to the concept of play based learning, the emergent curriculum and the importance and role of play in a child’s development. Through the opportunity for participants to engage in play, they will gain a better understanding on how it can be used and applied. Participants will begin to investigate and draw conclusions how materials can be used adequately and differentiated, while their children are engaging in play.

By attending and participating in this workshop, participants will be able to:

- Explain theories of play
- Discuss the basics of play based learning
- Highlight the impact of play on the various domains of a child’s development
- Integrate connections between play, inquiry, creativity and learning
- Critique the experience of engaging in play based learning in comparison to current learning strategies used
- Evaluate play based learning as it relates to academic learning outcomes and its inclusion of STREAM (science, technology, reading/literacy, engineering, art, math)
