WORKSHOP DESCRIPTION:

The workshop “Think, Question, Create: Energizing Social Studies through Projects” is designed to equip teachers with practical tools, strategies, and examples for embedding project-based approaches into their Social Studies lessons. Over the years, the methods of teaching and learning in Social Studies have undergone several changes, thus, this workshop is necessary to help teachers improve their skills and knowledge of critical developments in the subject, especially as they relate to integrating critical thinking, collaboration, and communication skills over the course of a project.

LEARNING OUTCOMES:

  • Explain the value of project-based learning (PBL) in strengthening inquiry, creativity, and engagement in Social Studies.
  • Design project ideas that align with key themes and objectives of Social Studies curriculum.
  • Apply strategies that encourage students to think critically, ask meaningful questions, and explore multiple perspectives.
  • Incorporate real-world issues and local/regional contexts into Social Studies projects to make learning relevant.
  • Evaluate student learning through authentic assessments that go beyond rote memorization.
  • Collaborate with peers to share, refine, and adapt project frameworks suitable for different grade levels.
