ALL resources must be date stamped before being removed from the library.
A borrower is responsible for any books for which the library holds a form signed by him/her until the item is returned and the loan cancelled.
Patrons are NOT permitted to use library tickets from another user to complete transactions at the Circulation Desk.
Students who are enrolled in the Bachelor of Education, Diploma in Educational Leadership, Diploma in Education – Primary, Secondary and the Barbados Community College programmes are allowed to borrow three (3) books from the Reserve Book Collection and six (6) books from the General Circulation Collection.
Students enrolled in the Continuing Education and the In-Service Certificate programmes are allowed to borrow three (3) books from the Reserve Book Collection and two (2) books from the General Circulation Collection.
External members are allowed to borrow two (2) books at any one time from the General Circulation Collection and a maximum of three (3) books from the Reserve Book Collection.
External membership will be suspended for individuals who are enrolled in the Bachelor of Education, Diploma in Educational Leadership, Diploma in Education – Primary/Secondary/Barbados Community College, In-Service Certificate, and Continuing Education programmes. This membership will be resumed after the named courses have been completed and there are no outstanding materials or fines.
Books from the General Circulation Collection are loaned for a two (2) week period.
Books from the Reserve Book Collection fall into two (2) categories: For Use in Library Only and Short Term Loan.
Books which are available for loan on a For Use in Library Only Form must not be taken from the Circulation desk unless the appropriate form has been completed and returned to a member of staff at the Circulation Desk. A person borrowing an item under this category will be allowed to retain it for two (2) hours only. A fine of $1.00 per hour or part thereof will be charged for these books if they are not returned and/or renewed at the end of the loan period.
Books from the Teaching Practice Collection will be loaned for a two (2) week period.
Books borrowed on Short Term Loan will be loaned for one week commencing from the day on which the transaction was done.
Renewals are permitted, as long as no requests or fines are pending. Renewals are also permitted only once by telephone or by visiting the library without having the books date stamped. Books must be brought to the library for a further renewal after the first renewal. Certain classes of reading material may not be removed from the library. These include books from the West Indian and Reference Collections, Syllabi, Theses, Newspaper clippings and Periodicals.
Patrons are required to have their library transactions completed fifteen minutes before the library closes.
An email notification for overdue books and outstanding fines will be sent to defaulting patrons. Patrons should ensure that their email addresses are active.
Lost or damaged library tickets will be replaced at a cost of $1.00 each.
A request for an item which is currently on loan may be made at the Circulation Desk by completing a request form. Please note that more than one person may request the same item. However, the item will be made available according to the sequence in which the request was received. Patrons will be notified when the item becomes available. The item will be reserved for a period of three days after the patron has been notified.
Books taken from the General Circulation Collection cannot be borrowed with a Short Term library ticket, nor can books be borrowed from the Reserve Book Collection with a regular library ticket.
